Paul Allen from Red Engineering was crowned Engineer of the Year at the MEP Awards last night at the Westin in Dubai.
The judges commented that the nominees has “demonstrated focus on developing the industry across a number of different sectors, although one of them has demonstrated more visibility than the others, and for this reason is the one who scored the highest and is more deserving of the award.”
“Allen has been a major player in the region, and has to be commended for his skill and commitment (and staying power!) He has had a varied career with many a highlight, and his role at Red Engineering is a great opportunity for him to develop them and raise his visibility in the industry to new heights,” said the judges.

“His profile reads more like an epic story, rising from a tough early beginning with basic education to reach a high level of engineering with an MSc in recent years. He impresses with his passion, and his honesty in approach to engineering and to other people,” said the judges.
Allen has been in the building services industry for 33 years, and over that time has accumulated a wealth of experience, both in the UK and mainly in the Middle East, where he has spent 25 years.
Allen’s exposure within the building services sector has been evenly divided between contracting and consulting, providing him with a balanced view of the industry, and thus enabling him to understand the practicalities of design solutions and the consequences of executing them.
There were two highly-commended nominees: Bill Jolly from KEO International Consultants was cited as a “well-rounded, well-respected engineer with high qualifications.”
The judges also commended Christine Faddoul Tyrer from Al Mashriq International Engineering Consultancy for her work in Oman.
