An Emirates A380 has been grounded after a scissor-lift catering truck collapsed, damaging its right wing.
The accident happened on 6 December when the truck was supplying the upper floor of the aircraft at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. The scissor mechanism failed and the truck body fell onto the leading edge of the right wing.
The plane was due to fly to Dubai that night and there were no injuries reported. A temporary structure has been placed around the A380 while it is repaired.
"Emirates can confirm that an incident occurred on 6 December and that damage was sustained to the inboard starboard wing and wing root of one of our A380 aircraft,” said an Emirates spokesperson.

“Another A380 has been deployed on to our Toronto route whilst the damaged aircraft is being repaired."
As has been widely reported, relations between Canada and the UAE have been strained recently over wider access to routes through Toronto. Failure to come to an agreement has led the UAE to tighten visa regulations for Canadian citizens travelling to the state.
