Former US president John F Kennedy once said that the goal of education was the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth and, if that’s to be believed, the GCC has a promising future ahead of it.
With billions budgeted for mega infrastructure, health and business projects throughout the region, countries in the GCC have also turned their collective attentions on the educational needs of its future working professionals.
Unsurprisingly, Saudi Arabia leads the way when it comes to major investment in education. KSA’s 2011 budget, the largest ever, highlighted a spend of around $100billion in education and infrastructure projects.

An additional $105billion in projects – covering a range of fields, including education projects – was also announced last week.
The budget will see the construction of 610 new schools (in addition to the 3,200 currently under construction and the 600 schools completed in 2010) and the rehabilitation of 2000 existing schools in the kingdom.
The following list of top education projects has been compiled using data collated by Ventures Middle East and highlights the ten largest developments on the go in the GCC at present.
The list details only ongoing projects or projects that are under construction, and names key contractors involved.
