Construction consultancy giant Jacobs Engineering has won a contract to design the Yanbu refinery expansion project in Saudi Arabia.
The US firm, one of the largest companies of its kind worldwide, has been contracted by Saudi Aramco Lubricating Oil Refining Co (Luberef) to carry out the preliminary work needed to double the capacity of the Yanbu plant.
With a current capacity of 280,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of oil lubricants, the refinery is aiming to produce approximately 640,000 tpy when it goes online in 2015.

This will increase the overall production of oil lubricants by Luberef, which today provides a massive 550,000 tpy via its two refineries on the Kingdom's Red Sea coast.
The Jeddah refinery, which was established earlier, produces 270,000 tpy of base oil grades and is located at the Saudi Aramco Industrial Complex south of the city.
