Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development Company has announced that its luxury Viceroy Maldives resort will officially open on September 1, 2011.
The resort is being developed by Vagaru Holdings Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Mubadala and Maldives-based luxury hotel developer, EoN Resorts. It falls under the expanding portfolio of the Viceroy Hotels and Resorts brand.
Mubadala is a 50% shareholder in Viceroy Hotel Group, and is driving the expansion of the hospitality brand into key global destinations. The Maldives property is the first Viceroy resort outside of North America.

“Mubadala’s approach of building successful partnerships with leading developers and brands has been critical to the delivery of this important project for Mubadala,” commented Peter Wilding, associate director, Mubadala Real Estate & Hospitality.
“The international expansion of Viceroy is central to our hospitality strategy so I’m delighted that Mubadala and its partners are able to make this announcement today. I look forward to the official opening in September," he added.
The intimate 61-bungalow resort is set on the archipelago’s pristine 17-acre Vagaru Island.
