The Middle East’s hospitality infrastructure and associated supplies industry is witnessing a steady growth. With projects blossoming in the region, especially in Qatar to accommodate the deluge of tourists in 2022, it’s an exciting time to be in this industry.

According to a report by real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle, the total hotel room supply in Dubai in the first quarter of 2011 is 51,200 rooms, which shows an increase of 2% from the last quarter of 2010.

In addition, Dubai saw a 10% increase in tourist arrivals in 2010 receiving 8.6 million visitors, compared to 7.8 million in 2009.

“Despite macro-economic indicators, there is little doubt that the regional hospitality industry is now experiencing solid if unspectacular growth.

With over $6 billion worth of hotel projects, mainly in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, still due for completion by 2013, the industry is looking forward with renewed confidence,” said Frederique Maurell, exhibition director, The Hotel Show.

With growth showing in the hospitality sector, a focus on hospitality trends including how sustainability and technology can be incorporated into the design is inevitable and is one of the things that will be discussed at The Hotel Show in Dubai this month on May 17-19.

“We are, quite naturally perhaps, already seeing greater emphasis on sustainability and technology, not only to save energy, enhance efficiency and save money. As such hotel owners and managers will no doubt be on the look out for products and services which match this trend,” added Maurell.

At the Hotel Show, new initiatives have been introduced following feedback from last year’s show. The Hotel Innovation Trends and Technology Conference will run alongside the exhibition and will focus on innovation and trends in technology, by way of a two-day conference and an extra day of workshops.

For further trends and innovations in hospitality design, the Innovation in Design stand will feature unique design pieces submitted by different brands.

Recognising that the hospitality industry is a booming and viable market in the Middle East at the moment, Commercial Interior Design speaks to those suppliers in the industry that you must know.
