“There was a delay in issuing the MEP tender due to design but as far as appointment of the contractor is concerned, we will be on time,” he stated by email. A timeline for the project, seen by CW, show that the MEP contractor is scheduled to start work in September and run for two years up to the project’s slated completion of October 2013. During this time, Phase 2B (finishing), Phase 3A (interior decorating) and Phase 3B will be executed.
The hotel will be an Elaf Jeddah hotel, containing 400 rooms as well as numerous retail units and several restaurants and assembly rooms.
Main contractor United Constructors Contracting Company (UCCL) has been working on the project since November, having subcontracted Saudi Arabian Fertiliser Company (SAFCO) to undertake the excavation and dewatering.
