The Abu Dhabi branch of Oman’s Al Hassan Engineering has been awarded internationally-recognised environmental and health standard certifications.
Al Hassan Engineering Contracting Abu Dhabi (AHEC-AUH) has achieved an ISO 14001: 2004 -Environment Management System Standard and OHSAS 18001: 2007 - Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard from Vincotte International, the global body for the certifications.
The award adds to the ISO 9001:2008-certified Quality Management System certification achieved last April, meaning it is now one of just a few contracts to hold all three global recognitions, and comes almost a year after it began the registration process for the current two.

“AHEC takes a very serious approach towards the impact of our activities on the environment,” said Peter Hall, AHEC’s CEO. “As concerns about global climate change grow, an increasing number of our customers are demanding that our processes and systems are demonstrably respectful of the environment. The OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications are evidence of our commitment to continually improving our HSE performance and surpassing our customers' expectations."
He added that customers also benefitted from the company’s environmental and health practices.
Vincotte International provides audits for management system and certifications over a number of areas of construction and engineering as well as technical inspections over areas such as heavy lifting equipment, non-destructive testing of materials and environmental impact assessments. Its Middle Eastern branch has worked from its base in Abu Dhabi for 33 years.
The scope of both certificates apply to a wide range of AHEC-AUH operations and particular areas include project management; EPC contracts; civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation construction and maintenance services for energy, petrochemicals, and infrastructure projects across the UAE.
AHEC-AUH will implement the health, safety and environment management system (HSEMS) as part of their risk management strategy to address, changing legislation and protect their workforce.
The system is intended to identify and control its HSE risks, reduce the potential for incidents, aid legislative compliance and improve the overall performance.
Al Hassan Engineering Contracting, part of Al Hassan Group, competes for contracts mainly in the energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors. Its shares have remained steady throughout 2011, ranging between 0.53 riyals and 0.383 riyals. The company saw a 17% rise in revenue in the first quarter against the same period the previous year on the back of receiving payment for previous projects.
