As part of its corpoorate social responsibility (CSR) promise, Yas Marina Circuit is preparing to harvest dates growing on palm trees around the area, and distribute them to local mosques for Ramadhan.
CSR awareness is on the rise in the Middle East, with more and more companies demonstrating an eagerness to be recognised for the steps they are taking towards showing their concern for the wider environment.
F1 racing is one industry that knows all too well its effect on the world. Edward Loughrey, head of facilities at Yas Marina Circuit, said: “With fuel emissions polluting the environment, the F1 made a conscious decision to plant a certain number of trees each year, to try and balance its effect on the environment.”

Loughrey explained just how diverse the FM team at Yas is, going from cleaning the street lighting to harvesting the dates on the trees. He said: “We’ve been really fortunate that they [palm trees] have grown. The dates that grow from the trees will be harvested by members of the FM team and sent to local mosques during Ramadan to be given to people for iftaars.”
