Delegates at the recent Foundation in FM course organised by MEFMA said it was a much needed program to outline standards of the industry in the Middle East.
The course was the third held since it had been launched and is pitched at both new and established members of the industry, and aims to be either an introduction into what FM entails in the Middle East, or a refresher, with the ultimate aim of developing attendees into leaders and managers.
Vedesta Okelo Otieno, Area Manager for RAK and Northern Emirates, Farnek Services, made the move from the hospitality to the FM sector three years ago and explained that the course provided a forum in which to share ideas about benchmarking and industry standards.

“FM is still very new in the Middle East and we are learning from the expertise of the more mature markets. It is great to see what is expected of FM in other countries and to see what benchmarks are being put in place to help us get to that level.
“If you look at every other industry, they all have specific standards they are expected to meet. I am here to learn what standards are expected from us in this industry,” he said.
The course is split over five days and provides delegates with an introduction to operations and maintenance as well as covering project management, finance and business essentials, sustainable FM and leadership and strategy.
