Strabag Oman has won a $210.3m contract to build access roads to the Duqm port and dry dock, and to divert some of the wadis, according to a senior official from the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, said the scope of work included construction of more than 30km of road, work related to diverting wadis and associated infrastructure development.
Five other international and local bidders submitted several bids, with different options, including Consolidated Contracting, Galfar Engineering & Contracting and National United Engineering Constructing.
The $2.6bn Duqm port is expected to commence operation by mid-2012. The majority of the tenders has already been awarded to several contracting firms, and are under different stages of implementation.
