Suppliers of concrete machinery and equipment are looking forward to the marketing opportunities at Middle East Concrete 2011 – the exhibition devoted to the material at The Big 5 conference in Dubai next month.
Precast, ready mix and related equipment will be on show at the event, and exhibitors are all trying to catch the eye of consultants and the procurement managers.
“We’re there for one reason: to generate as many leads as possible,” said Rami Adras, marketing manager at Al Kifah Construction Equipment, this morning. “The Big 5 has so many people coming from Saudi, Qatar, Egypt, Iraq looking at the companies exhibiting, and in particular a lot of our customers from Saudi go there.”

He added that the Dammam-based company, which supplies the “A to Z” of construction machinery in the Saudi market, sends invitations to clients to see them at the show, but that they are also on the hunt for new business.
The company will be providing a demonstration of its batching plant using a scale model of the system at its stand at the event. It is the first time the company is exhibiting at this show, having exhibited at eight of the last 10 shows of The Big 5.
The batching plant is one way it can draw attention to itself, he said. “Big 5 is huge, of course, so we need something that people can see something of ours, then later it will click with them and they will remember.”
Bilal Hamed, technical and commercial manager at RAK Precast, is looking forward to the ability to explain the precast method to consultants, which, as a more expensive method to casting concrete in situ, has fallen out of favour in the last few years.
“If you look five years ago, speed of construction was very important, and people changed to precast concrete. Now, with the recession, the important thing is price.”
He added, however, that precast concrete can offer competitive pricing if there is multiple repetition, such as a mandate for 300 villas.

Ten precast companies will form a Precast Zone at the event and jointly exhibit. Though they are rivals as suppliers, Hamed said that jointly getting the message across about the benefits of precast is good for their section in the industry. “We are looking to find out what is happening in the market, and what projects are upcoming,” he said.
Walid Al Khaldi, of Concretec, another member of the Precast Zone, said the company is looking forward to “new opportunities for better marketing” of the method and the company.
