Byrne Equipment Rental has signed a deal with Al Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) to provide temporary accommodation on a site in Abu Dhabi.

The Dubai-headquartered equipment rental firm said it is providing a Pioneer camp set-up for the contractor in the Empty Quarter, adjacent to the Saudi border. This will provide accommodation for workers more than 110km from the main camp.

The mandate includes Algeco cabins on-site, consisting of senior staff and labour accommodation, mess hall, offices and additional units with ablution and shower units, a mosque, generators and associated consumables providing power for units and ablution units.

The total build itself consists of a accommodation complex of around ten buildings, covering around 74,877.67m2; an administration complex covering around 53,597.8m2; permanent roads; a VIP villa and a temporary camp that will accommodate up to 2,000 staff at peak time of the project, covering around 20ha.

“The distance was a challenge in itself considering the amount of Algeco cabins that were required; however, with logistics and transport supplied by Byrne the units arrived on time and the facility was up and running as per the client’s request,” said Mark Locker, Byrne Equipment Rental sales manager for Abu Dhabi.

“We have been heavily involved with the client since the mobilisation of the units and since the initial installation HLG have requested more Algeco units which have also been delivered to site.”

William Rabbitts, logistics manager for site 281 at HLG, said that the company was able to get all materials to the site on time “by planning all loads and moves and ensuring that all vehicles are fully laden prior to departure to minimise unnecessary journeys and minimise cost”.

He added that as the nearest hospital is 110km away, the site also required a fully fitted clinic, with a registered GP, and a fully equipped ambulance with paramedics.
