US-firm Technical Glass Products has developed a new range of interior fit-out products that allow designers to create large, fire-rated glazed walls with the smooth, monolithic appearance of a structural silicone glazed system.
The Fireframes SG curtainwall series consists of Pilkington Pyrostop fire-resistive-rated glass attached to narrow, steel, fire-rated frames with a toggle retention system.
The assembly is silicone sealed and requires no pressure plates or caps. The toggle retention system becomes completely hidden once installed, allowing for a smooth, frame-free exterior surface. On the anterior side of the system, steel fire-rated frames provide high strength and clean sightlines.
“Codes require architects to have fire-rated materials, but that doesn’t mean they should compromise on aesthetic goals.

That’s where Fireframes comes in to play,” said Jeff Razwick, vice president of business development for Technical Glass Products.
“It bridges the gap between fire-rated and conventional curtainwall systems, combining fire resistance with a smooth glass aesthetic.”
The Fireframes SG curtainwall series is available with 60- and 90-minute fire ratings, and is listed and labelled with Underwriters Laboratories (UL). The system has been designed to accommodate both the Fireframes designer or heat barrier series door systems.
The company is also showcasing its Fireframes ClearFloor, a glass floor system that is impact-resistant and fire-rated for two hours – the only glazed floor in the US with that level of protection.
The company says the flooring allows glazing in spaces that previously would have required alternative opaque fire-stopping materials like concrete and corrugated steel.
Architects and designers can use the system to bring daylight deep into building interiors, and to create dramatic visual effects between different building levels. Potential applications include universities, department stores, hotels, restaurants, and corporate offices.
“Design professionals have been asking us about fire-rated glazed floors for several years,” says Razwick. “This is a one-of-a-kind solution, and we’re looking forward to seeing the creative ways they use it.”
