Kirby sees the Gulf as a growing region
Kirby Building Systems says steel structures that are pre-engineered can save a fifth of material costs against conventional steel building and that the company sees the Gulf as a growth market.
Its manufacturing process is able to create the specific shapes required, minimising the material costs, compared to contractors who have to buy larger pieces and waste material and money in cutting them to size.
“The conventional building method used to be that contractors would buy whatever section was in the market, so if there was a section that was 400mm in width both ends and one end needed to be 300mm, there would be wasted material cutting this into proportion,“ Mohammed Rady, senior area sales manager for UAE and Oman. The Kuwaiti company also has production facilities in Ras Al Khaimah, India and Vietnam.

It distributes around the Gulf and in Turkey, providing structures for purposes as diverse as warehouses and hospitals.
Kirby’s presence in the region came about by the parent, Alghanim Industries, bringing it over from the US.
The pre-engineered concept for steel structures is relatively new in the region, though it is catching on, with further sales due to the proven 20% reduction in cost.
