The first solar rooftop in Saudi Arabia is to be installed at Parcels 5.07 and 5.08 at the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). At close to 200kW, the solar plant will not only be the first, but also the largest, rooftop plant in Riyadh.
In collaboration with local partner Modern Times Technical Systems (MTTS), Conergy will be installing over 800 Conergy PowerPlus 230M modules on 1.7km of Conergy SunTop III mounting systems over a surface of 1,300m2.
The 330MWh of clean energy generated each year, which could supply 1,500 computers in the financial centre, will be fed into the power grid of the metropolis via 14 string inverters.
The solar plant will prevent the emission of 180t of carbon dioxide a year once it is connected to the grid in the first quarter of this year.

Solar Energy
If I am honest this is the last place I would have thought would invest in self sustaining energy due to the amount of oil they have and sell. Great news - we need more countries to take note and start to use clean energy.

Solar and Wind technologies are here and ready
What an excellent move to see this kind of project in the Kingdom after so many years talking about how this should be a prime goal of all coporations and the government considering the amount of Sun light Saudi gets during the year. I hope we see more of these projects around the country during 2012 as we are now pushing this technology in other GCC and African countries.
