Almajdouie, a project logistics and supply chain company, has moved what it has billed as its heaviest load in the Middle East to date, an evaporator that is also believed to be the largest of its kind in the world.
Main contractor Doosan recently won a $1.76bn order from the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia, with Almajdouie awarded the contract for overall onshore activities for the evaporator, built by Doosan Heavy Industries of Korea.
Almajdouie used a self-propelled modular trailer with 172 axles and 688 double-width tyres. The capacity of the trailer was 6,680t, while the actual weight conveyed was 4,891t.
The evaporator was 124m long, 34m wide and 12m high. It had to be transported from the Ras al Khair jetty to its foundation on-site.
