A Second Constituency candidate for the next Kuwaiti parliamentary elections called for speeding up the implementation of the national development blueprint.
Mohammad Flaitah told supporters that although more than $14bn of the country’s $130bn development plan had been spent, no tangible results have been made on the ground.
Flaitah also called for encouraging the private sector to play a more active role in the development process, supporting national products and small and medium-sized enterprises and protecting small investors.
The current national development plan covers 1,100 projects to 2013/14 and includes a new business hub (Silk City) with estimated cost US$77bn; a major container harbour and a 25km causeway; a railway and metro system; and increased spending on the country’s oil sector to raise production capacity and modernise current facilities.
