The first medium and high voltage electric motors manufacturing and servicing facility in the Middle East and North Africa began operations earlier this month, a multinational joint venture has announced.
The 34,000m2 manufacturing facility was built as part of a joint venture between Taiwan’s TECO Electric and Machinery, Saudi Arabia’s Al Quraishi Electrical Services, Shoaibi Group and Al Ashjaea.
“This facility will provide high quality motor products that are in high demand in the entire region. We also plan to create employment opportunities for Saudis. In that regard, it is important to note that TECO Middle East has reached the silver level of ‘Netaqat’,” said Faisal Al Quraishi, chairman of Al Quraishi Electrical Services.

The manufacturing facility will be located in Dammam’s second industrial city, and will manufacture medium and high voltage induction motors of up to 13,000hp, and will include a high voltage testing facility of up to 30,000hp.
The facility will also be equipped with a service department that has a number of highly qualified resources for all types of motors, said Saad Al Arfaj, the CEO of TECO Middle East.
He noted that the production facility will have the latest technology in motor manufacturing, and that it will aim to deliver highly efficient engineered motors to the Middle East region at competitive prices and with short delivery times.
The production range will be in the 200 to 13,000hp, with a full capacity of 600 units a year. The motors design, manufacturing process, quality control procedure, and the technology are all licensed by TECO, the joint venture’s international counterpart and shareholder.
Furthermore, the facility will also supply coils that have been insulated by TECO-Westinghouse Thermalastic Epoxy Insulation, Al Arfaj said.
Production of the first batch of motors has already started and they have been tested successfully, Al Arfaj said. He added that TECO Middle East currently had a 25% Saudisation plan, and aimed to increase that figure to 40% in the near future.
