It is official: Dubai now has the tallest cluster of residential buildings in the world, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

This achievement was capped with the completion in 2011 of 23 Marina, the world's tallest residential building at 393m. The tower is in close proximity to The Torch and Princess Tower, which will take the record from 23 Marina upon its completion this year.

In a report entitled 'A Year in Review: Trends of 2011', the CTBUH reported that Dubai added seven 200m+ towers in 2011. A decade ago the entire UAE only had three 200m+ towers, while today it has 60, lagging behind only China and the US.

"Within ten years, the country has established itself as centre of tall building construction, and has completed more 200m+ buildings than any other country except China in the past two years," stated the CTBUH.

The 200m+ towers completed in Dubai in 2011 are:

  • (3) 23 Marina, 393m
  • (5) The Torch, 337m
  • (11) Khalid Al Attar Tower 2, 294m
  • (15) Marina Pinnacle, 280m
  • (26) U-Bora Tower 1, 263m
  • (28) Vision Tower, 260m
  • (70) Grosvenor House The Residence, 210m
