Bahrain’s plans for a new $530m central market in Manama may need to be revised, says a senior official.
Manama Municipality announced the grand plans last August when a deal was inked with Tashgeel for Commercial Buildings Management to supervise the construction of the project.
The plans included a new business, residential, shopping and leisure facilities. The new central market, named the Capital Trade Centre, was to include four 28-storey office and shopping towers, car parking, a five-star hotel, a cultural centre and a park. The development was due to be opened within six years.
However, Yousef Ibrahim Al Ghattam, Director General of Northern Municipality, said the project may need to be scaled back – and that the company was looking at making changes to the project.
The changes, he told the Bahrain News Agency, included lowering the number of floors to be built and some changes to the public transport pool.
