The Ministry of Health in Sharjah has appointed Wekaya to handle the emirate’s medical waste.
The contract was signed by Eng Khaled Majed Lootah, the ministry's assistant undersecretary for institutional and support services, and Khalifa Al-Shaibani, GM of Wekaya, in the presence of Dr Mohammad Abdullah Al-Zarouni, deputy manager of Sharjah Medical Area.
Currently, Sharjah has 3.5 tonnes of medical waste per day, 15%-20% of which is dangerous, says Al Shaibani, general manager of Wekaya.
Wekaya is expected to provide collection, transportation and treatment services of medical waste to more than 24 medical facilities managed by the Ministry of Health in Sharjah which covers Sharjah City to the eastern and central areas.
