$31.5 hotel, mall to be built in Kirkuk in Iraq

Kirkuk, 250km north-east of Baghdad, is in urgent need of infrastructure investment.

The foundation stone of a $31.58m five-star hotel and shopping centre has been laid in Kirkuk, the first project of its kind in the city.

The hotel and shopping centre development will be built over three years by Rekani, a contractor based in Kurdistan, in conjunction with various Turkish companies.

Kirkuk, 250km north-east of Baghdad, is still in urgent need of investment to reconstruct the ruined infrastructure of the city, destroyed by years of war and government negligence.
