Jeddah Mayoralty has given the official go-ahead for the +1km supertall Kingdom Tower, which will become the world's tallest building upon its completion in 2017.
Jeddah Mayor Dr. Hani Abu Ras has announced that the mayoralty issued a license on Monday for constructing the approximately 161 storey tower in North Obhur. He said that the Jeddah Economic Company had received the requisite permit.
Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) had earlier announced its signing of a contract with Jeddah Economic Company and Saudi Binladin Group to carry out the tower project at a cost of $1.2bn.
KHC chairman Prince Waleed Bin Talal recently said: "The tower is a socio-economic and political message to the world that we, as Saudi investors, invest our money in our country."
