M/S ILF Engineers has been awarded a consultancy contract for the overall development of Dubai's $3.26bn 100MW solar-energy park, as well as the construction of the first 10MW solar project within the park.
The first project in the solar park, to be operated under the supervision of DEWA, will cost $32.6m to build. It will be fully funded by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE).
Extending over 40km2, the solar park expects to begin operations by Q4 2013, said Walid Salman, a member of DSCE. “Production will be 10MW by the fourth quarter of 2013, and will go up to 100MW by 2030,” he said.
The solar-park project follows on from Dubai’s stated aim to generate 5% of its electricity using renewable energy by 2030.
