A long presence in the Middle East has strengthened Shantui’s sales and service networks, says Wang Feng, vice general manager

Shantui is in the ‘third phase’ of its presence in the Middle East, said Wang Feng, vice general manager of Shantui’s export company. The brand has been in the Middle East for ten years, and builds a ‘desert spec’ machine for the markets here.

Phase one, says Wang, was selling direct, with casual orders. Phase two was selling via agents, and now phase three has seen a refocusing, and signing with new agents, in Saudi Arabia, and in the UAE, Qatar, and Oman.

“After sales service has become more and more important for us, and that’s why we have set up our subsidiary in Jebel Ali. We need to provide support to the local dealers, to give training, and help dealers improve their service.

Our dealer’s engineers may not be so familiar with Shantui’s products, so our team in Jebel Ali provides them with training, and we also invite them to come to China.”
The Jebel Ali warehouse holds a reserve of spare parts for speedy distribution, said Wang, and their dealers must also have a strong spare parts inventory.

The 105t bulldozer
Famed for their bulldozers, Shantui pulled the covers off a new 105 tonne model at bauma China, powered by a 708kW Cummins engine.

Heralded as a breakthrough model by the manufacturer, the SD90-5 has a 6.5 metre wide blade has a cubic capacity of 45m³, while the machine is 11.5 metres in length, with 4.5 metres of ground contact track.

According to Shantui, multiple technical breakthroughs were made in the areas of machinery integration, heat management system and modular design of the monster crawler bulldozer.

The modular design makes for easy disassembly and assembly as well as easy maintenance, while the machine has a V-type, direct injection, supercharged intercooled diesel engine.

Blade features include double tilt cylinders for control over the blade tilting angle and effective drop below ground.

Speaking at the show, Chang Yang, chief representative of Shantui Construction Machinery FZE, said that he expects the machine will find Middle East buyers mainly for mining and quarrying projects in Saudi Arabia, as well as projects requiring major earthworks.

One highlight of the machine may be Shantui’s new hydraulic control fan system, which adjusts the fan speed according to working conditions, allowing for reduced energy consumption as well as operating in high ambient temperatures.
