Belgium-based software developer Bricsys NV has reworked its ‘Bricscad V8' CAD software to ensure full compatibility with all types of .dwg file formats. Long the little brother to CAD giants AutoCAD or MicroStation, Briscscad V8 promises improved functionality at a fraction of the price of competing CAD software packages.
Unlike AutoCAD or MicroStation, Bricscad V8 features a multiple-document interface (MDI) that allows users to simultaneously manage information, settings, layers, hatch patterns and linetypes between several drawings.
Bricscad V8 integrates a Microsoft Windows interface with a CAD engine to allow for use of standard AutoCAD menu files, keyboard commands and Autodesk AutoLISP programs. Moreover, files written with other CAD software can be recompiled to link with Bricscad libraries.
While the software is now technically comparable, officials in the Bricsys NV camp are pointing to its cost-effectiveness as the main reason for switching to the Belgian product.
"With a price tag of only one-tenth of that of the market leader.... Middle East architects, engineers, designers and contractors have opened their eyes to this high quality, professional CAD software", says Per Gogstad, professional services director of Tecnoserve FZ-LLC, the regional distributor of Bricscad software.
