More than 13,000 tones of structural steel were shipped from Mina Port Zayed in Abu Dhabi to the American and Mexican ports of Houston and Altamira.

The shipment marks Emirates Steel’s growth potential in the global marketplace in addition to the firm’s existing presence in the Asian and African markets.

“We are moving into the international markets, and are competing globally with the international steelmakers in high value niche markets,” said Emirates Steel’s CEO, Saeed G Al Romaithi.

“Supported by Senaat, we are well positioned, technologically, geographically and strategically, to become the region’s leading exporter to Europe, the U.S. and beyond.”

Gabe Siegel, owner of the Houston-based Service Steel Warehouse Company was satisfied with the products and said that the ‘UAE steel’ will be used mainly in US commercial, retail and residential buildings.

Siegel said: “I think it is exciting to see steel made in the Arabian Peninsula. The blend of the most current DRI technology with a first-class rolling mill along with expertise in some of the most demanding applications will ensure that Emirates Steel will be a leader in long products today and into the future."
