Foster+Partners unveils Abu Dhabi World Trade Centre designs

Foster+Partners has revealed designs for Abu Dhabi Trade Centre at Marché International des Professionnels d'Immobilier (MIPIM) in Cannes, France.

Located at Al Raha Beach, the project will form the principal building at the Al Raha development.

Abu Dhabi Trade Centre will be a mixed-use property, featuring offices, apartments, a hotel and shops to encourage a constant pattern of economic and social activity throughout the day.

The building has been designed with sustainability in mind. Environmental computer analysis has been use to create a design that provides shade while also admitting light. Cooling will be provided by a natural flow of air, with buffering against the desert winds.

A reactive louvered shading system is angled to maximise solar gain, depending on orientation, while the southern part of the building is indented reduce the external area most vulnerable to direct sunlight. At ground level, the overhang of the roof creates a shaded walkway that wraps around the building, and the roof is streamlined according to the prevailing winds to encourage cooling air currents around and through the building.

Construction is scheduled to begin this summer.
