Hong Kong-based landscape architecture firm Strata, an offshoot of architectural practice RMJM, is planning to establish a base in the UAE.
The firm, which specialises in landscape design and urban planning, currently has one person in Dubai and is seeking to recruit extra staff, Viraj Chatterjee, director of Strata said.
Strata announced its presence in the region with a stand shared with RMJM at the recent Cityscape real estate trade show in Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on the decision to establish a base in the UAE, Chatterjee said: "The UAE provides new design challenges and opportunities with its unique climatic conditions and some of the most innovative developer-clients and projects of our time. In addition, Strata feels it would be easier to monitor Middle Eastern projects from a base in Dubai to ensure quality and continuity."
"The idea of Strata is to live as an independent brand under RMJM, working both on RMJM projects and with other architects," he added.
Projects Strata has previously worked on in the region include Palm Jebel Ali Hub with Nakheel, a mixed-use development at Al Ain with Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company and Silverene Dubai Marina with Dubai property developer Cayan.
Projects the firm has worked on outside the region include landscape design for Beijing Olympics Convention Centre and Kolkata International Convention Centre.
