Majid Al Futtaiam officially opened the doors to the $48.7m (AED275m) City Centre Me’aisem – its sixth city centre mall within the UAE – on Tuesday, 1 September, 2015.

Named after its location in the Me’aisem area of International Media Production Zone (IMPZ), the mall is strategically situated in the growth corridor of Dubai at the intersection of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.

City Centre Me’aisem is built on 3ha (235,000sqf), comprising 23,850sqm of Gross Leasable Area and spread over one level.

As the twelfth City Centre in the region, City Centre Me’aisem has been tailored to the needs of its 11 surrounding communities and is expected to serve four million visitors in its first year of operation.

Michael Cesarz, chief executive officer of Shopping Malls Business Unit for Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said: “As a shopping centre operator we are well known for producing large malls, however during the week our customers enjoy visiting smaller malls and we realised that we are lacking in this area.

“We need to bring retail closer to the customer for their weekly and daily needs and City Centre Me’aisem serves this purpose.”

“At the moment we can’t predict the expected footfall, however we have 130,000 people living within close proximity to City Centre Me’aisem, so we

Construction of the mall, which is expected to include a second phase in 2020, began in March 2015.

Featuring a contemporary and world-class design – as well as sustainability measures, the mall was built within a 13-month timescale – with construction works commencing in Mark 2014.

“Some of the design was carried out during the building stage, which was very new to us. We were concerned that we wouldn’t achieve the standards and quality that we are used to delivering to our customers but we are very proud of the outcome”, Cesarz added.

“All targets were met, we are completely within budget and within all timescales – and this is a prime example of why we are proud of the people of Majid Al Futtaim.”

City Centre Me’aisem features more than 53 retail outlets including the UAE’s 22nd Carrefour hypermarket, fashion and lifestyle stores, restaurants, fast-food chains, cafes and convenience stores. It also features Magic Planet, the Commercial Bank of Dubai and a medical clinic.

The mall is built in line with Majid al Futtaim’s sustainability vision and features a ‘Bionest’ water recycling system, the UAE’s first-ever solar panel lighting solution in its parking area, energy-efficient LEED-compliant lights and water saving taps, with more than 83% of all construction elements coming from recycled materials.
