The project aims to aid the free flow of traffic in Abu Dhabi.
Work on Contract 2 of the Salam Street Improvement Project has begun in Abu Dhabi, and is set to continue for the next 18 months.
The contract is part of the first phase of the overall project, which covers Abu Dhabi Municipality’s (ADM) development plan and infrastructure upgrade for the Salam and Eastern ring Road areas.
Street number 31, which links Salam Street and Muroor Road has been partially closed as a result of the work. A second detour stage will be announced soon, ADM said.
The ADM said that the project is in line with “the capital’s strategic vision of creating a modern Abu Dhabi that is on a par with the most progressive cities in the world.”
The Salam Street Improvement Project aims to transform one of Abu Dhabi’s major thoroughfares into a free-flow facility, a network of roads and tunnels with grade separations and intersections without traffic signals.

“The work is in keeping with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030,” said ADM general manager HE Juma Mubarek Juma Al Junaibi.
“It highlights the municipality’s aspiration of playing a key role in the economic development and social advancement of the capital.”
ADM director of internal roads and infrastructure Engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi said, “We are dedicated to making the lives of all residents easier and more comfortable by putting our efforts into the modernisation of roads and transport systems in Abu Dhabi.”
The Salam Street Improvement Project includes the establishment of a series of tunnels and surface roadways and junctions that run along Salam Street and leads to Mina Road.
The new road network, including the four new tunnels, is expected to ease traffic and reduce travel time across Salam Street.
The municipality has advised motorists to get to street No. 31 through street No. 29 during the closure. Engineer Mohamad Ahmad Al Katheeri appealed for full cooperation to avoid accidents, traffic jams and delays.
