Dubai-based master developer Nakheel has announced its Forbidden City project in International City.
Work on the development started in April with final completion estimated to be in April 2011.
Inspired from the legendary Royal Court Palace of imperial China, the project will be a residential neighbourhood housing 4000 low-rise studio, one-bed
and two-bed apartments.
International City director Rashid Al Helli said, “The development has been carefully planned to take into consideration everything that residents will need in terms of retail and leisure amenities, to help build a thriving and sustainable community.”
According to Nakheel, International City provides a diverse range of affordable accommodation options in an accessible living environment. The project’s residential district is divided into 10 themed communities representing, China, England, France, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Persia, Russia and Spain.
But the community that lies just off Emirates Road has been extensively criticised by residents for its proximity to Dubai’s biggest sewage dumping ground.
Nakheel is developing iconic projects in Dubai which are conservatively estimated to be worth US $80 billion (AED294 billion). Upon completion Nakheel's Waterfront projects will have added more than 1000km of shoreline to Dubai’s coastline.
Nakheel’s Dubai portfolio currently includes Nakheel Harbour and Tower, Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Deira, The World, Waterfront, The Universe, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Heights, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Al Furjan, International City, and Dragon Mart.
