Emaar's iconic Dubai project, Burj Dubai, is getting its finishing touches with the installation of a pinnacle as the building prepares for its official completion in September 2009.
VSL’s Heavy Lifting division placed its lifting jack on top of the tower today, which will pull the steel cables that are connected to base of a pinnacle.
The lifting height will be 90 meters, but the actual placing of the jack is 700 meters above the ground.
“The pinnacle will measure 144 metres, but not all of this will be out of the tower. The actual height of the pinnacle which will be seen out of the tower will be 90 metres. The pinnacle weighs 400 tonnes,” said David Gratteau, manager, VSL Heavy Lifting Middle East.
“We are waiting for the cladding of the tower to be complete. The cladding process should be completed over the next month after which the pinnacle will be lifted on top of the tower,” says Gratteau.
The Burj Dubai will be at least 818 metres tall.
Samsung is the main contractor on the project in a joint venture and Eversendai are the steel fabricators and erectors.
