CW Oman Awards: Sustainability Initiative revealedby James Morgan on Mar 29, 2016
Carillion Alawi secured the Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2016.
The accolade was awarded in recognition of the contractor’s Eco House Project during a gala dinner and winners’ ceremony in Muscat last night.
The initiative is designed to facilitate the widespread adoption of zero-energy homes through the use of solar power, energy-efficient technologies, and marketable applications.
Commenting on Eco House, Raja Packirisamy, sustainability manager at Carillion Alawi, said: “We built Eco House for Oman’s Higher College of Technology. It is one of the country’s first truly eco-friendly designs – a real sustainability initiative for us as a contractor.
“The objectives of this project include enabling a low-carbon economy, reducing the carbon footprint, using eco-friendly materials, and improving energy efficiency,” Packirisamy told Construction Week.
Carillion Alawi’s Eco House Initiative is a real-life project that demonstrates the efficacy of the latest green building practices and technologies.
In the words of one judge: “[The contractor’s] sustainability strategy has contributed to outstanding performance across several categories, including reductions in water use, carbon emissions, and landfill.”
Another judge described this initiative as a “leading example of a residential application that employs sustainable construction methods.”
Other shortlisted nominations within the Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award category included Bausher Waste Water Initiative by Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), the Mirror Removal Water Wastage Initiative by Larsen & Toubro (Oman) LLC, and Reduce Carbon Emissions by Carillion Alawi LLC.
Construction Week would like to thank its panel of industry judges for selecting the ultimate winners of this year’s awards categories.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to this year’s sponsors, without whom the CW Oman Awards would not be possible. The event was held in partnership with The Big Show Oman, Gold Category Sponsors Aecom and FAMCO, Category Sponsors Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and S&T Interiors and Contracting, and Official Aluminium Extruder, National Aluminium Products Company (NAPCO).
