The 50 hectare Waterfront Landscape Nursery, created last year to service the extensive Waterfront and Palm Jebal Ali developments, has grown to become the largest landscape nursery in the UAE.
Nakheel recently announced that there are 156 000 plants, shrubs and trees currently growing at their Waterfront Landscape Nursery, and the garden centre aims to produce around 4 million plants each year.
Extensive greenhouse areas have been created at the nursery for growing plants from seed, and shaded areas have been created to ensure the best possible growth conditions for the plants. Irrigation works in the nursery are provided from the treated effluent water from a nearby sewerage treatment plant.

This nursery marks an important sustainable initiative from Nakheel as the nursery will be servicing a number of developments, has recycling programmes in place and will utilise ‘mother stock’ cuttings to reduce waste.
"We are delighted with the progress our nursery has made since its creation a year ago. With the use of large greenhouses and shaded areas, our plants are flourishing amidst the desert”, said Matt Joyce, Managing Director of Waterfront.
“There has been a lot of interest in the plants and trees already - we have taken our first order from the Badrah project within Waterfront, and had enquiries from Palm Jumeirah. Interest is set to grow further as the development progresses", he continued.
