Abu Dhabi approves public park plans

Abu Dhabi Municipality has approved designs for seven new public parks in the capital.

The parks will be located in residential areas and will create more than 60,000 square metres of public space, the municipality said.

The parks are to be located in the Al Bateen, Al Mushraf, Al Za’ab, Al Rawda and Al Nahyan areas.

According to state news agency WAM, the largest park, which is in Al Mushraf, will occupy 25,613 metres.

Hyder Consulting has been selected to design the blueprints for the parks, according to Abu Dhabi daily The National.

The parks are part of the Urban Planning Council’s Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, which seeks to increase the amount of greenery in the capital.

It is expected that all the parks will have shaded playgrounds and benches.

Construction of the parks is set to start in September 2009.
