A US $52.2 million (SAR196 million) contract has been awarded to Huta Marine by The Emaar Economic City (Emaar E.C.) for undertaking drinking water supply infrastructure within the King Abdullah Economic City, including the construction of a reverse osmosis (RO) plant.
The agreement was signed between Fahad bin Abdul Mohsen Al Rasheed, board member and chief executive officer, Emaar, and Saleh bin Laden, chairman of Saudi Huta Group, in Jeddah.
The contract is for 10 years. It will be operated on a build-own-operate basis, and covers the construction of a 10,000 cubic metres per day RO plant, pumping station and a 10,000-cubic-metre steel holding tank to provide water in KAEC.

After the first two years of operation, Emaar E.C. will have the option to increase the production to 20,000 cubic metres a day.
Another RO plant with a capacity of 70,000 cubic metres per day is currently in the process of being arranged by Emaar E.C. It is expected to be operational within two to three years.
According to Al Asheed, the KAEC is developing it as a modern city with the highest standards of infrastructural support.
