Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum grants official approval for Al-Ras and Al-Ghubaiba stations
UAE: The design of the Al-Ras and Al-Ghubaiba stations on the Green Line of the Dubai Metro was last month granted with official approval from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
According to HE Mattar Al-Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), the conceptual design of the two stations focuses on the architectural ingredients seen in traditional buildings, such as brajeel or wind towers, alleyways or sukaik, mashrabia, and internal arches, amongst others.
Inspired by the diving and pearl-fishing heritage of the UAE, the Dubai Metro stations have been modelled on the shape of a seashell, while the interior design depicts the four elements of water, air, earth and fire.

There are two types of elevated Dubai Metro station – the first has entrances on elevated platforms, with visual communication with the external environment of the station maintained through glazed roofs or partitions. The second type of station is supported on pillars, with both the lounge and platform housed on the upper level.
Since these stations are situated in locations parallel to highways, they will be accessed from both sides of the road through entrances at ground level. Most are linked with air-conditioned footbridges that cross Sheikh Zayed Road.
