Infrastructure works at King Abdullah Economic City will include a reverse osmosis plant
The Emaar Economic City (Emaar EC) has awarded a US $52.2 million (SAR196 million) contract to Huta Marine for drinking water supply infrastructure works within the King Abdullah Economic City, including the construction of a reverse osmosis (RO) plant.
The agreement was signed between Fahad bin Abdul Mohsen Al Rasheed, board member and chief executive officer, Emaar, and Saleh bin Laden, chairman of Saudi Huta Group, in Jeddah.
The contract is for 10 years. It will be operated on a build-own-operate basis, and covers the construction of a 10,000m3 per day RO plant, pumping station and a 10,000m3 steel holding-tank to provide water in KAEC.
After the first two years of operation, Emaar EC will have the option to increase the production to 20,000m3 per day. Another RO plant with a capacity of 70,000m3 per day is currently in the process of being arranged by Emaar EC.
It is expected to be operational within two to three years.
