Without it a building cannot break ground or begin construction. Site fencing is as important, if not more, to a construction site as its labourers or heavy machinery.
Worldwide and in the Middle East, the fencing industry is moving towards recyclable solutions that are easy on the environment. The aim is to go green in Dubai and Al Ghattaura, CEO, Logical Contracting, says his company has the solution.
“Plastic fencing looks much more attractive and is lighter, apart from being completely recyclable,” he says.

Logical also offers a 20% buyback on not only the plastic product, but takes 20% off the total invoice bill.
“We recycle the concrete blocks, the pipes, the framework, and everything that goes into the plastic fencing,” he says.
Logical Contracting will begin manufacturing plastic fencing in its new facilities in either Dubai Industrial Park or Al Ain by April this year.
“By the time we begin manufacturing, plastic fencing will be cheaper than steel. Most companies have to pay someone to take off the fencing after they finish construction. We will do it for free. If a client pays US $272.4 million (AED1 million) for a fence, they will get $54,476 back,” says Ghattaura.
Logical have also teamed up with ABC Imaging, who are in the process of setting up their offices in the International Media Production Zone.
“They will print messages directly onto the plastic. Usually a client has to get another company to print vinyl or flex wrap on top of the fencing. We will offer direct printing on the panel and also give it a three-year UV protecting guarantee. We can put on 3D images as well on plastic fencing. There is nothing wrong with the steel product, it can be re-used as well, but not as well as the plastic products,” says Ghattaura.
There is a green benefit to using steel fencing and it is significantly eco-friendly. It’s not just plastic that can be recycled, Paul Grundy, managing director, S&B
Fencing, makes a strong case for how steel fencing can be recycled as well. The company recently put up a 12kms fence around Masdar City in Abu Dhabi and was chosen because they offered the most eco-friendly solution for the project.
“New steel also constitutes about 50% to 60% recycled steel, so it is a recycled product to start with,” says Grundy.
Steel can also work on the buyback principle, but most clients prefer to simply move steel fencing to another project after one is completed.
