French construction group, Lafarge, is to build a US $203.2 million (INR9.3 billion) cement plant in northern India.
The plant will be built in Alsindi in the Himachal Pradesh region and will generate an annual capacity of three million tonnes of cement by the time it is completed in 2010.
With this project, Lafarge will enter a new fast-growing regional market in India and significantly increase its cement capacity from 5.5 million to 8.5 million tonnes a year.
