Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has signed a contract to rehabilitate a school in Yemen’s Hadhramaut Governorate.

The project, which will be conducted in conjunction with Shakhmar Contracting Company, will involve the refurbishment of Shabaat School in Daw’an District.

Under the terms of the deal, the premises will be ready to welcome pupils in 40 days’ time, according to UAE state news agency, WAM.

Commenting on the contract, Ahmed Al Neyadi, ERC’s deputy head in Yemen, said: “The agreement is part of the ERC’s assistance for infrastructure and education projects in the governorate, and falls within the UAE’s humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people during the current difficult time.

“The school building will be revamped and equipped with facilities, so as to make it ready to welcome students in 40 days,” he added.

The agreement was welcomed by Mohamed Al Zaini, director of Daw’an District’s education directorate, who expressed his gratitude to ERC for supporting the education sectors of Yemen’s liberated governorates.
