Terex has launched a pedestal version of its CC3800-1 crawler, the Demag PC 3800-1, that can be deployed on site with just four outriggers – like a mobile crane – and minimal ground preparation.

The PC 3800-1 also requires significantly less ground preparation time than crawler cranes, and the location does not even need to be perfectly levelled, as the outrigger cylinders can compensate for inclines of up to 2.1° across a 12m X 12m base.

The PC 3800-1 pedestal crane features hydraulic extendable and foldable outriggers that can be deployed in 12m X 12m or 14m X 14m configurations with Superlift, or in a 16m X 16m configuration without Superlift.

The outriggers can also use existing pile foundations as support, making the particularly useful on jobsites where a ground structure already exists, such as when working around refineries, highways or other existing infrastructure.

Terex stated: “The PC 3800-1 also provides increased lifting performance in several configurations or requires less counterweight for the same or slightly higher lifting capacities. Less counterweight means fewer trucks, translating into significantly reduced transportation costs.”

Demag has also developed an adapter to connect the carbody of the crane to a self-propelled modular transporter – allowing a PC 3800-1 to lower the load per axle to 12 tonnes for use in markets or over infrastructure with weight restrictions.

The PC 3800-1 can be purchased either as a complete crane or just as a retrofit option for the Demag CC 3800-1 crawler crane and its predecessor, the Superlift 3800.

Optional accessories for the pedestal crane include a quick connection to un-deck the superstructure from the chassis and different sizes of outrigger mats.

The quick connection system allows efficient switching between crawlers and pedestal carrier on Demag CC 3800-1 cranes with or without the Superlift and is also compatible with wind turbine combinations and boom booster kits.
