The Dubai Mall has facilitated the production of 26 tonnes of compost collected from the mall’s food outlets, marking a first for any shopping complex in the UAE.

The initiative underlines the focus of Emaar Malls to promote environmental-friendly practices that support the UAE’s vision for sustainable development.

The composting is facilitated by the Soft Facilities Management team at The Dubai Mall with the cooperation of the food and beverage outlets and Suez Middle East Waste Management.

All waste from the outlets and the mall’s food courts are collected for composting by Tadweer Composting Plant. The compost is then used for landscaping at Emaar’s various integrated lifestyle communities in Dubai.

An expert team of professionals are leading the initiative, with waste that is deemed unsuitable for composing, such as plastics and bottles, segregated.

The initiative is being planned to be expanded to other malls under Emaar Malls soon.
