ALEC’s Henk Mol was crowned Project Manager of the Year at the Construction Week Awards 2017.

Mol was praised by our panel of independent industry judges for his ability to guide the delivery of extremely challenging projects on time and within budget.

Commenting on the scale of developments on which Mol has worked, one judge said: “If you can effectively manage projects of this magnitude while keeping all of the stakeholders happy, then your ability deserves recognition.”

Speaking to Construction Week after receiving his trophy, Mol said: “This means a lot. What I enjoy most is the appreciation of my colleagues, and all of the different cultures within our workforce.

“Have you ever been a conductor for a jazz band with a baton?” Mol asked. “To me, being named Construction Week’s Project Manager of the Year is [akin to this]. It’s not an impossible task, but it is difficult to get everybody [to play]. Effective project management is about getting everybody playing together to achieve a common goal.”

Faithful+Gould’s Alasdair Leven was named this year’s Highly Commended Project Manager.

Other shortlisted nominations included Atkins’s Ahmed Al-Jahdhami; WME Engineering Consultants’ Aoidin Curran; Multiplex’s Ben Casey; Parsons’s John Rinard; Drake & Scull International’s (DSI) Satayef Kassabbashi; and Arcadis’s Yasser Khan.

An independent panel of judges, comprising eight of the Middle East’s foremost construction experts, selected winners in 14 categories at the Construction Week Awards 2017.

The event was supported by Gold Sponsors ALEC, HPBS, HBF, EB, National Engineering Bureau (NEB), and Union National Bank (UNB); Silver Sponsors Arabtec, Depa, Future Metro, and WME Consultants; Category Sponsors Construction Computer Software (CCS), DeSimone Structural Engineers, JLG, Kone, Multiplex, and Ramboll; Social Media Partner, WSP; and Post-Event Celebration Sponsor, BAM International.
