Clyde & Co has announced the appointment of a trade and transportation specialist to lead its expansion initiative in Saudi Arabia.

The law firm said in a statement that in the role of senior associate, Khurram Ali will led the company’s international trade and transportation team in Riyadh, which includes associates Abdullatif Albunayyan and Mohammed Aldowish.

Rob Lawrence, partner at Clyde &Co, will continue to oversee the firm’s international trade and transportation practice in the Kingdom from the Dubai office.

According to the company, Ali’s appointment makes it “the only international law firm with a dedicated trade and transportation specialist based in the Kingdom”.

Ali joined Clyde & Co's Dubai office in 2013 and has more than 15 years of experience in dispute resolution. He primarily focuses on shipping and transportation as well as commodity disputes and general commercial litigation. He has also advised several government bodies on aspects of their shipping and transport regulations, the firm added.

Christopher Jobson, partner at Clyde & Co and head of dispute resolution for the Middle East, commented: "The growing activity we are witnessing in the Saudi market is unprecedented and required a dedicated expert with the right know-how.

“Khurram is an exceptional practitioner and will be a great asset for our clients”.

Meanwhile, Ali said: "Saudi Arabia is experiencing exciting developments and Vision 2030 is already leading to key investments for transportation, trade, and logistics. I’m looking forward to assisting clients in those projects across the Kingdom."

In February, the firm announced that it had opened an associate office in Muscat, Oman, its fifth in the Middle East.
