Construction Week Viewpoint tackles heritage-inspired building projects in the UAE, and discusses why preserving traditional and historic structures is vital today.

In the latest episode, hosts Oscar Rousseau and Jumana Abdel-Razzaq are joined by Rima Alsammarae, editor of Middle East Architectwho shares her insight on the efforts in motion to preserve architectural heritage in countries such as the UAE.

The demolition of old buildings is a sensitive topic; on the one hand, preserving cultural heritage is important, but so is making room available for modern projects to spur urban development.

Last year, Dubai Land Department's Mohamad Khodr Al-Dah, said that "we risk losing our architectural heritage” if buildings continue to be demolished, and the latest podcast episode looks at this, and the efforts of developers, contractors, and architects to preserve the country's heritage architecture.

Construction Week Viewpoint is a weekly SoundCloud podcast series produced by the Construction Week editorial team.
