The developers of Abu Dhabi’s Reem Island announced today that the first phase of the project’s infrastructure is more than 50% complete and on track to be completed by March 31, 2010.
Storm water, irrigation, sewage works an air conditioning will also be operational by the same date, said bosses of Bunya, the authority that oversees the main infrastructure and utilities on Reem Island.
Reem Island is one of the largest developments in Abu Dhabi. Once complete it will be home to 200,000 people, have seven schools, four hospitals, 10 mosques and two police stations.
Its plans are currently on display at Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2009 where bosses made the announcement today.
“Over 50% of phase one of the infrastructure development, which began in February 2008, is complete”, said Tariq Sultan, Bunya CEO.

“We have completed 85% of road embankments, 75% of the sewage pipeline network and 65% of the storm water network. Electricity will be available on the island as of June 2009,” Sultan added.
The first phase of work includes the laying of 24,383m of storm water network, 8,868m of natural gas pipes and 434,794m of telephone cables.
Bunya was established in 2005 by the three master developers of Reem Island; Sorouh Real Estate, Tamouh Investments and Reem Investments.
