Hoehler + alSalmy announced it has won a consultancy services contract for Muscat University’s new permanent campus project.

The Omani architectural and engineering firm beat out numerous other architectural consultancies for the design competition that was put out to tender by the university.

According to a statement, the firm’s “innovative designs” stood the firm apart to the judging panel, which was said to be “amazed with the company’s pioneering design capabilities whilst catering to the Muscat University’s vision of coping with competitiveness, globalisation, and sustainable development principles for its new campus”.

The design will be in line with the university’s intended masterplan for the purpose of “a modern, high quality, forward-looking university campus located in close proximity to the new airport”.

The firm already has experience designing for universities, having accomplished the masterplan for two other universities in Oman.

According to Hoehler + alSalmy, both the German University of Technology in Halban and the Buraimi University have become award winning projects based on their “next generation designs and state of the arts technologies brought to the Sultanate of Oman”.

The news comes amid a wider flurry of activity in the country’s design and build sector.

In May, it was revealed that the passenger terminal at Oman’s Duqm Airport is expected to commence operations in the second half of this year, with construction already 96% complete.

Earlier this year, Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al-Za'abi, chief executive officer of Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), revealed that Package 3 of the airport was progressing as planned.

Package 3 included a new passenger terminal and an air traffic control (ATC) tower, in addition to other facilities.
